As a basic teaching unit managed by the school and the college of mechanical and electrical engineering, the Engineering training Center undertakes the practical teaching and experimental practice of Manufacturing Engineering training for more than 5000 undergraduates and postgraduate courses of 16 categories of majors in Central South University. In addition, it also takes responsibility for training and guiding students to participate in National Undergraduate Engineering Training Integration Ability Competition and National College Mechanical Innovation Competition. It is the base to cultivate students' abilities of engineering practice and innovation, and also improve students' overall qualities.

The engineering training center include technology theory teaching and research room, material forming practice workshop, machining practice workshop, NC machining practice workshop, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping manufacturing practice workshop. There are 30 internships and mentors, including 1 engineer and 1 experimenter, 24 senior workers and 4 middle-class workers. There are 7 teachers in the Department of Technology Theory, including 1 professor, 5 associate professors, 1 lecturer and 2 doctors.
