The Research Institute of Robotics and Intelligent equipment (RIRIE), founded under the urgent demand of "Made in China 2025" for the development of robot and intelligent equipment industries, conducts world-class researches on fundamental science and applied technology related to robotics and intelligent equipment and cultivates high-level talents for the industry. Doctoral and postgraduate students are trained according to the training plan for the directions of Mechanical Design and Automation, Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and Digital Equipment and Computational Manufacturing.

RIRIE has 11 academic staff, including 7 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 lecturers, 6 doctoral supervisors, 11 postgraduate supervisors, 1 Scholar of The Recruitment Program for Global Experts, 1 Distinguished Professor of Yangtze River Scholars, 1 FuRong scholar, 1 Distinguished Young Scholar of Hunan Province, 1 winner of the New Century Excellent Talents in University (NCET) and 1 talent from Shenghuayuying Plan (a cultivation program of CSU).

The Institute currently undertakes more than 10 national research projects such as the National key basic Research and Development Plan (973 Program), the National key R & D Program, the National Natural Science Foundation (Key Project) and other national projects. It’s been awarded for over 10 awards including the second prize of natural science and technology of the Ministry of Education, the first prize of scientific and technological progress of Hunan Province, the second prize of science and technology of Chinese machinery industry, the second prize of scientific and technological progress of Hunan Province. During the past 3 years, the researchers have published over 600 refereed academic papers and books(including more than 150 in SCI), and have more than 50 patents.
